Coll. John Hampden's Regiment of Foote is a re-enactment group within the Roundhead Association. The Roundhead Association and the King's Army together form the English Civil War Society. Founded in 1974, the regiment was named in honour of the real-life regiment commanded in the seventeenth century by John Hampden MP and took the field in 1642. As one of the pivotal English figures of the 1630s John Hampden stood up against Tyranny and Oppression! He was known in his lifetime as "Patriae Pater" (the father of the people) and had he not been tragically killed in the Civil War, the outcome might have been very different. |
Our aim in the 21st century is to highlight and illustrate the "distracted times" of the early Stuart era, which were crucial to Britain's political development. John Hampden's Regiment regularly take part in Battles, Skirmishes, Living History and Drill Displays, all over the UK as part of The English Civil War Society. More recently, we have also been supporting The Open Rope Society in their events. We are able to put on a full Living History site as a matter of ease, which would include a working Blacksmith's forge, an apothecary, a carpenter, an alehouse, a fully working Sutler's as well as an artillery display featuring 'Boston' our Minion Drake field gun, supported by musketeers and pike. We warmly invite you to explore these pages to discover more about their lives, our lives...and how you can get involved. |
